At that time, Father Barnabas had long ago, since the onset of the illness that chained him to the chair, accepted the schema with the name Seraphim. There was no question of any "standing" on the knees for 1000 days. This is a pious fiction, but a fiction nonetheless.
Batiushka was distinguished by his perspicacity and told his visitors their future for many years to come. He also knew the date of the end of the war, and whose victory would be, and spoke about this to many. Then not everyone liked it, as some expected the Germans to be released from the "Babylonian captivity." But Father knew the will of God. When the Novodevichy Convent was closed, Father's granddaughter, Margarita, returned home. Her further fate is unknown, but before the war she visited Vyritsa.

I remember how Father told me: "Look out the window."
I went to the window - there are trees, houses can be seen behind them. And suddenly everything seemed to blur - and a view of the Gulf of Finland opened up, the waters of which were filled with many ships with multi-colored flags.
"What do you see?"
"Ships, father, there are many ships on the Gulf of Finland."
"And how many are there?"
"Is it possible to count?"
"One thousand six hundred. The time will come when there will be a spiritual flowering in Russia. Many churches and monasteries will open. Pagans and unbelievers will arrive in Russia on such ships to be baptized. For through Russia the light of the world will shine. Many will come to pray, admire the Russian land, touch its shrines - and all this will come true. And such grace will be given that people will turn to God, and their hearts will be opened, and their minds will be enlightened - and all this is the gift of the Lord. But this is not for long - for fifteen years, then the Antichrist will come [...] ”(Archpriest Vasily Shvets, “Memoirs of Vyritsa and Elder Seraphim”, “Derzhavnaya Rus”, No. 6, 1994).
Unfortunately, Archpriest Vasily Shvets did not share the sources from which he drew his information about the “prophetic words” of Elder Seraphim Vyritsky.
Let us not forget that the preservation of prophecy has never been the responsibility of Orthodox priests. The first efforts in this regard began to be made only after 1884 by the Supreme Church Authority in the form of periodically appearing instructions “On the collection and proper storage on the ground in the diocesan archives of the prophecies of blessed husbands and wives” (1884, 1888, 1896, 1902). But in practice they were little guided in everyday life, since the very "circumstances of the time" and the conditions of Church life of those days invariably brought to naught all these "good undertakings" of the Church leadership.
Since 1917, the situation has changed dramatically.
It is known that many (if not all) bishops, after 1920, taught by the bitter experience of administrative activity, deliberately, “for the sake of fear” of the Cheka and the GPU, systematically destroyed all the papers that came into their hands, as soon as the practical need had passed. , and also each, according to "their discretion", "cleaned" the archives "just in case".
Therefore, the preservation of the prophecies was carried out only thanks to the ingenious practice of the Russian people (and this should be especially noted and emphasized). Since it was impossible to print openly, the prophecies were distributed among the population in copies or in lists through Samizdat. This event, which arose spontaneously, as a replacement for the complete absence of any kind of printing at all, helped a lot to penetrate the main prophecies into wide circles of believers.
True, this should also be noted, sometimes with a certain number of “additions”, or as Anna Sergeevna Igovskaya (1907-1994) wrote:
“At that time, Father Barnabas long ago, from the onset of the illness that chained him to the chair, accepted the schema with the name Seraphim. There was no question of any "standing" on the knees for 1000 days. It's a pious fiction, but a fiction nonetheless."
Therefore, the phrase of Hieroschemamonk Seraphim Vyritsky: “We, thank God, will not live to see this atrocity, we will not drink the cup of bitter shame for the Church, but at the same time, religious processions will go from the Kazan Cathedral to the Alexander Nevsky Lavra” - this is also, most likely, pious fiction, because in the first article of the journalist A.N. Novikov "The Righteous and Ascetic Life of Seraphim Vyritsky (1865-1949)" ("St. Petersburg Diocesan Gazette", 1990, No. 1, p. 35) - it is not. This phrase appeared in the text only in 1993 due to the "pious intention" to strengthen the "prophetic" part of the text.

Saint St. Seraphim Vyritsky possessed an undoubted prophetic gift.
Elder's prediction in 1927, the patriarchal ministry to Archbishop Alexy (Simansky) of Khutyn and the approaching cruel persecution; the prophecies of the ascetic about the coming Great Patriotic War and the victory of our weapons in it; foresight about. Seraphim of the death of Fr. Alexy Kibardin fifteen years after his own, as well as the exact insight into the fate of many people, have now become indisputable facts.
Deeply prophetic are the lines written by the elder in 1939. poems "A thunderstorm will pass over the Russian land ..."
"A thunderstorm will pass over the Russian land,
The Lord will forgive the Russian people their sins
And the holy cross of divine beauty
On the temples of God it will again shine brightly.
And the ringing of bells throughout our Holy Russia

During the years of bloody persecution, when it seemed that the Church was doomed to a speedy and complete annihilation, Fr. Seraphim spoke openly about her coming rebirth. Talked about. Seraphim about the revival of specific monasteries - the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra, Diveev, etc. many years, the entire Lavra will be handed over to the monastics. The priest also predicted that in time a monastery would also be founded in Vyritsa, and Leningrad would be renamed St. Petersburg again.

Relatives and close spiritual children of Fr. Seraphim note that not everything was seen by the elder in rainbow colors.
"The time will come when not persecution, but money and the charms of this world will turn people away from God and many more souls will perish than in times of open rebellion,- said the father, - on the one hand, crosses will be erected and domes gilded, and on the other hand, the kingdom of lies and evil will come. The true Church will always be persecuted, and it will be possible to be saved only by sorrows and illnesses. Persecution will take the most sophisticated, unpredictable character. It will be terrible to live up to these times. We, thank God, will not live to see it, but then a religious procession will go from the Kazan Cathedral to the Alexander Nevsky Lavra.
In a number of predictions of the Vyritsky elder, there are very disturbing notes. "If the Russian people do not come to repentance," the priest said, "it may happen that brother will rise again against brother".
Several important predictions about. Seraphim of Vyritsky was recorded by Maria Georgievna Preobrazhenskaya, niece of Vladyka Theophan of Poltava.
It was right after the war. I sang in the kliros of the Peter and Paul Church in the village of Vyritsa. Often, with the singers from our church, we approached Fr. Seraphim for blessing. After a short pause, the priest again said thoughtfully: “If people from all over the world, every single person (again, as if in a singsong voice, the elder repeated these words several times), at the same time would kneel and pray to God for at least five minutes for the extension of life, so that the Lord may grant time for repentance to all..."
The Vyritsky elder has repeatedly said that Russia has a priceless treasure - it is the guardian of the holy Orthodox faith. True enlightenment is the enlightenment of the soul with the light of Orthodoxy. Not the prosperous West, where the ultimate goal of all things is the earthly well-being of man, but Russia, blessed Russia, which in its infancy accepted the foolishness of the Cross, preserved in the depths of its immense soul the image of Christ Crucified and carries it in its heart, is the true light of the world. That Holy Russia, which has always lived in anticipation of the heavenly, first of all sought the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and was in living communion with heaven. Nun Seraphim (Morozova) recalled how the elder, describing one of his spiritual contemplations, told her:
"I have visited all countries. I have not found better than our country and I have not seen better than our faith. Our faith is above all. This is the Orthodox faith, the true one. Of all the known creeds, it alone was brought to earth by the incarnated Son of God. I beg you, mother Seraphim, tell everyone that no one deviates from our faith ... "
Combining his breath with the sweetest name of Jesus, Father Seraphim saw in mental prayer an invaluable means for acquiring peace of mind and salvation:
"In the most difficult times, it will be convenient to be saved who, to the best of his ability, begins to strive in the Jesus Prayer, ascending from the frequent invocation of the name of the Son of God to unceasing prayer."
Vyritsky elder advised to read the prayer of St. Ephrem the Syrian "Lord and Master of my life..." “In this prayer is the whole essence of Orthodoxy, the whole Gospel. With it we ask the Lord for help in acquiring the properties of a new person,” said the priest. The sin of condemnation Seraphim called one of the greatest spiritual ailments of our time. "We have the right to judge only ourselves. Even talking about a person, we already involuntarily condemn him"- said the Vyritsky elder.
Father Seraphim was deeply convinced that a person should prepare himself for Eternity. At the same time, the elder strongly advised not to accept any visions, phenomena and voices from the spiritual world, and he himself carefully concealed his supernatural gifts from people, never performing miracles or feats for show. "Carnal, sinful people are not worthy to see angels and saints. They tend to communicate only with fallen dark spirits, which, as a rule, becomes the cause of death. Let us pray that the Lord deliver us from the temptations of the evil one,"- Father Seraphim edified his neighbors.
Vyritsky ascetic with his life answered many questions that concern those who seek salvation in the modern stormy world. For many years, Fr. Seraphim through an imperceptible, everyday feat. This is a feat hidden from prying eyes, performed in inner solitude, where there is no place for excitement and irritability, despondency and despair. This is a daily feat of active repentance, fasting and prayer; a feat of real and feasible deeds performed for Christ's sake and in the name of love for one's neighbors. This is a quiet, but firm standing in faith, which requires much more courage than momentary ardor and the loudest exploits and miracles. Where passions rage, there is no place for the grace-filled peace of Christ.
Summarizing the words of the ancient fathers about the ascetics of the last time, St. Ignatius Brianchaninov writes: “Those who in truth will work for God will prudently hide themselves from people and will not perform signs and wonders among them ... They will follow the path of doing, and with created humility, and in the Kingdom of Heaven they will turn out to be great fathers, glorified by signs. Prophecies about the future of Russia. Hieromonk Seraphim Vyritsky
Hieromonk Seraphim Vyritsky (Vasily Nikolaevich Muravyov in the world) is a secret person. Sometimes you can find references that during the war years he repeated the feat of the Reverend Seraphim of Sarov - he stood on a stone for a thousand days and nights, begging for victory.

When the rout of the monastics of the city of Petrov came, on the night of February 18, 1932, he was already an elder of about seventy. He entered monasticism with his wife, already having one son. Father Varnava entered the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in St. Petersburg, and his wife entered the Novodevichy Convent in the same city. Their son married, and gave his daughter to a monastery under the guidance of a grandmother. This girl was of extraordinary beauty and wore the uniform of a novice in the monastery with a headdress adopted in this monastery.
Father Barnabas worked behind a candle box. When, after the assassination of Metropolitan Veniamin, churches began to be taken away from the Lavra in order to preserve the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, they began to serve in it in the winter as well. The cathedral was not heated. The cold there was terrible. The candle box was located near the entrance doors, and Fr. Barnabas caught a cold for the rest of his life: intercostal neuralgia. He could neither stand nor lie down, but only sit reclining in an armchair. So he “sat” for 17 years.
When they came to him in his cell to arrest him, they could not "take" him. He was the only one not taken away from the monastics that night. The next morning, admirers hastily took him to Vyritsa in a passenger car. And the authorities "forgot" about him. The father was placed in a private dacha. On the top floor lived two old ladies. In the lower - Father and m. Khristina. She was not arrested, since since Fr. Barnabas fell ill, lived in his cells and looked after him. They didn't take her. And in Vyritsa they lived quietly until the death of Batiushka. When the Germans occupied Vyritsa in the first days of August 1941, they also did not cause the Elder the slightest violence. In Vyritsa, a family of summer residents, admirers of the Elder, also fell “under the Germans”. At that time Fr. Barnabas long ago, from the beginning of the illness that chained him to the chair, accepted the schema with the name Seraphim.
Batiushka was sagacious and told his visitors their future for many years to come. He announced the date of the end of the war, and whose victory would be, and spoke about this to many. Then not everyone liked it, as some expected the Germans to be released from the "Babylonian captivity." But Father knew the will of God...
When the Novodevichy Convent was closed, Father's granddaughter, Margarita, returned home. Her further fate is unknown, but before the war she visited Vyritsa.

Mother Khristina (Olga Ivanovna Muravyova, nee Naydenova) reposed in the Lord as schema-nun Seraphim in 1945. She is buried in the village. “Now it has become very fashionable to write on “conceptual topics”. The matter, of course, is good and necessary, because after the collapse of the Soviet Union the situation in the world has fundamentally changed. It is necessary to comprehend this situation and try to give a forecast of what humanity can expect, at least in the near future. Numerous articles and studies on this topic touch upon political, economic, social, military, etc. questions. But practically they lack the main thing - the spiritual dimension. True, there are attempts to introduce the concept of “spirituality” into explanations of what is happening, as a rule, having nothing to do with genuine spirituality (For the very word “spirituality” implies the presence of the Holy Spirit in the mentioned phenomena and concepts, which writers often have no idea about). Unfortunately, the Orthodox press rarely touches on these issues. Meanwhile, many, many would like to know the opinion of the Orthodox Church, its analysis of current events from the point of view of believers and the spiritual tradition of Orthodoxy.
At all times, Orthodox Christians have had, and today have, something to say about the spiritual state of the modern world, about what awaits not only our Fatherland, but also humanity in the coming times. Holy Scripture narrates about this, while the specific course of events in individual epochs is revealed in the prophetic words of spirit-bearing ascetics and elders of the Orthodox Church.
The Lord never suddenly sent trials to the nations, but, as a rule, gave people the opportunity to correct the violated commandments of God and to repent. The entire Old Testament is filled with warnings of the prophets about disasters coming to Israel if he does not correct his ways. The prophet Jonah was warned 40 days in advance of the destruction of Nineveh if its inhabitants did not repent. Forefather Noah was announced by the Lord about the coming Flood 120 years before the event itself, and Noah warned people about it.
And in our days the Lord proclaims future events and determinations about the fate of peoples through the elders, led by the Holy Spirit. And it is not for nothing that Bishop of Vladimir and Suzdal Evlogii writes: “Turning to the topic of senile warnings about impending cataclysms and courageous overcoming of them seems to me timely and logical today.”
As long as there is an opportunity, our duty is to clarify the views of Orthodox believers, to give answers to many questions that concern the citizens of our Fatherland, as opposed to lies and the planting of Sodom as the norm of life, with which the current media are filled to overflowing.
Just one example of a lie spread by the press: referring to the opinion that exists in the West, it is constantly written that security in Europe has increased. Therefore, Russia has nothing and no one to be afraid of, peace and security are ensured by the new emerging order. NATO is the guarantor of this world. Yes, indeed: the wolf is the guarantor of the safety of the sheep herd. After all, we read in the New Testament: “For when they say: “Peace and security,” then sudden destruction will overtake them, just as the pain of childbirth overtakes a woman in the womb, and they will not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that the day will find you like a thief. For you are all sons of light and sons of the day: we are not sons of the night, nor of darkness. Let us therefore not sleep, like the rest, but let us watch and be sober” (1 Thess. 5:3-5).
Let us follow the words of the Apostle and try, in the light of the prophecies of our great elders, to recall the times in which the Lord has honored us to live and what awaits us. All this is written so that every citizen of our Fatherland hears the voice of Christ: “Therefore, be awake at all times and pray that you may be able to avoid all these future disasters and stand before the Son of Man” (Luke 21:36).
I would like to tell the words that I happened to hear in the cell of the great old man of our time - Schema-Archimandrite Seraphim (Tyapochkin; 1894-1982) from Rakitnoye more than thirty years ago. What he said then seemed incredible or very, very far from our days, which we are unlikely to live to see...
But now the time has come to remember the prophecies of the elder. During the memorable conversation, a young woman from a Siberian city was present. The elder said to her: “You will accept martyrdom at the hands of the Chinese in the stadium of your city, where they will drive the Christian inhabitants and those who disagree with their rule.” This was an answer to her doubts about the words of the elder that almost all of Siberia would be captured by the Chinese.
The elder said what was revealed to him about the future of Russia, he did not name dates, he only emphasized that the time for the accomplishment of what was said is in the hands of God, and much depends on how the spiritual life of the Russian Church will develop, how strong faith in God will be among Russians people, what will be the prayer feat of believers. It was said that day unexpectedly for everyone - about the future "scenario" of the collapse of Russia. Since a significant part of what was said then was already fulfilled, let us also remember what we have not yet lived up to.
The elder said that the collapse of Russia, despite the apparent strength and rigidity of the authorities, would happen very quickly. First, the Slavic peoples will be divided, then the union republics will fall away: the Baltic, Central Asian, Caucasian and Moldavia. After that, the central power in Russia will begin to weaken even more, so that the autonomous republics and regions will begin to secede. Further collapse will follow: the authorities of the Center will no longer actually recognize individual regions, which will try to live independently and will no longer pay attention to decrees from Moscow.
The biggest tragedy will be the capture of Siberia by China. This will not happen by military means: due to the weakening of power and open borders, the Chinese will begin to move to Siberia in droves, buying up real estate, enterprises, and apartments. Through bribery, intimidation, agreements with those in power, they will gradually subjugate the economic life of cities. Everything will happen in such a way that in one morning the Russian people living in Siberia will wake up ... in the Chinese state. The fate of those who remain there will be tragic, but not hopeless. The Chinese will brutally crack down on any attempts at resistance. (That is why the elder predicted martyrdom at the stadium of the Siberian city of Orthodox people and patriots of the Motherland). The West will promote this creeping conquest of our land and support China's military and economic power in every possible way out of hatred for Russia. But then they will see the danger for themselves, and when the Chinese try to seize the Urals by military force and move on, they will prevent this by all means and can even help Russia in repelling the invasion from the East.
Russia must endure in this battle, after suffering and complete impoverishment, she will find the strength to rise in herself. And the coming revival will begin in the lands conquered by the enemies, among the Russians who remained in the former republics of the Union. There, the Russian people realize what they have lost, realize themselves as citizens of that Motherland that still lives, wish to help it rise from the ashes. Many Russians living abroad will help restore life in Russia... Many of those who can escape persecution and persecution will return to their original Russian lands to fill abandoned villages, cultivate neglected fields, and use the remaining undeveloped subsoil. The Lord will send help, and, despite the fact that the country will lose the main deposits of raw materials, they will find on the territory of Russia both oil and gas, without which a modern economy is impossible. The elder said that the Lord would allow the loss of vast lands granted to Russia, because we ourselves could not use them worthily, but only polluted, spoiled ...
But the Lord will leave behind Russia those lands that became the cradle of the Russian people and were the basis of the Great Russian state. This is the territory of the Grand Moscow Principality of the 16th century with access to the Black, Baltic and North Seas. Russia will not be rich, but it will still be able to feed itself and force itself to be reckoned with.
To the question: “What will happen to Ukraine and Belarus?” The elder replied that everything was in the hands of God. Those who in these nations are against an alliance with Russia - even if they consider themselves believers - become servants of the devil. The Slavic peoples have a common destiny, and the reverend Fathers of the Kiev Caves will still say their weighty word - they, together with a host of new martyrs and confessors of Russia, will beg for the spiritual Union of the three fraternal peoples. Regarding the position of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine, the elder said that most of the parishes would become Uniate, and in fact, Catholic. The monasteries will stand for Orthodoxy to death, and many monks and nuns will be martyred. The power on the Crimean land will eventually be seized by the Tatars, Ukraine will lose the Crimea.
Another question was asked about the possibility of restoring the monarchy in Russia. The elder replied that this restoration must be earned. It exists as a possibility, not as a predestination. If we are worthy, the Russian people will choose the Tsar, but this will become possible just before the reign of the Antichrist or even after it - for a very short time.
It seems that what has been said hardly needs comments. Wait and see. And yet, what the elder prophesied is being fulfilled too accurately. Those who come from the Far East and Siberia say that practically all the fortified areas along the vast stretch of the border with China have been destroyed. The border troops can do nothing with the penetration of not only goods into our country, but even millions of people from China. All this is happening against the backdrop of a colossal increase in China's economic and military power. But it is in Siberia, according to official press reports, that most of our strategic missile installations are located: three of the four Russian missile armies are deployed in Siberia and on the border with it: in Chita, Omsk, Orenburg. And all this can fall into the hands of our potential enemies.
